The artistic and environmental efforts of four Edward Milne Community School (EMCS) students who
designed climate change posters will be rewarded with cash prizes thanks to a donation by Transition
Sooke. The theme of the poster contest, which coincided with the COP26 world meetings on climate
change that just completed in Glasgow, Scotland, was focused on building awareness of climate issues in
the Sooke community.

“The work of the students in creating the posters, is a good example of how local action can be taken to
address a global problem,” said Transition Sooke board member Alan Dolan. “There is a broad range of
actions we can all do to both prepare for and help reduce the impact of climate change.”

Winners of the poster contest were:
First prize: Charlotte Baye Pearson
Second prize: Hannah Gillie & Gwenlili Jones
Third prize: Allison Forget

Susan Percival, Career Centre Coordinator at the school, coordinated the event on behalf of EMCS.

Each prize included a note to the winners that stated, “Thank you for your participation and efforts to make Sooke aware of the climate issues that we are facing. As the world climate summit in Glasgow, Scotland comes to a close, it is important to remember that we can all do our part to help create a healthy planet for all mankind.

It is hoped the posters will be displayed in public venues in the Sooke community.
