Our Vision
The Sooke Community Garden Project is a vital initiative led by Transition Sooke’s Sustainable Food Security and Agriculture Action Group. With generous grant funding from the District of Sooke, we are working in close collaboration with the community, District of Sooke Council, and their staff to secure a suitable long-term location for our project.

What We Aim to Achieve
- Allotment Gardens: Our primary goal is to provide individuals and families in Sooke with the opportunity to grow their own fruits and vegetables through allotment gardens. Whether you’re an experienced gardener or a complete novice, our community garden welcomes you.
- Commons Garden for the Food Bank: In partnership with the Sooke Food Bank, we’re establishing a communal garden that will supply fresh produce to those in need. This project not only promotes self-sufficiency but also contributes to food security in our community.
Get Involved!
We need your help to make this vision a reality. There are several ways to get involved in the Sooke Community Garden Project:
- Choosing the Site: We’re currently working with the District of Sooke to secure a long-term location for the community garden. If you have insights or expertise in this area, we’d love your input.
- Fundraising: Every contribution, big or small, makes a difference. If you’re passionate about supporting local food security and sustainability, consider helping us raise funds for this project.
- Council Advocacy: Advocacy is key to the success of our project. We’re actively engaging with the District of Sooke Council and staff to ensure a smooth and supportive process. If you have advocacy skills or experience, your voice can make a significant impact.
- Garden Construction: Once the location is secured, we’ll need hands-on help to construct the garden infrastructure. If you’re skilled in building or enjoy physical work, we’d love to have you on board.
- Garden Management: As the community garden grows, we’ll require ongoing management and maintenance. This is a great opportunity for those with green thumbs and a passion for sustainable agriculture.
- And More: If you have other skills, ideas, or resources that can contribute to our cause, please reach out to us. We’re open to creative collaborations and innovative solutions.
